    Skylar Davis is a conceptual portrait photographer based out of Lexington, KY. Skylar watched her Grandmother work as a photographer growing up and gained an interest in photography in grade school. Throughout middle school and high school she participated in 4-H teen and photography programs. After winning awards through 4-H she began to realize her true potential. It was then she decided to take the next step and go to school for Photography. She received her Bachelors of Fine Arts with and Emphasis in Photography in 2012 from Eastern Kentucky University. While attending EKU, her passion for social issues, history, and photography came together and began to work conceptually. Creating work that has an impact on the way people think about themselves or the world is Skylar’s goal. In 2010, she won the Dean’s Choice Award for her series of nude portraits portraying stoic women and men in high contrast light. Throughout her 4 and a half years at Eastern, she was juried into 2010, 2011, and 2012 EKU Juried Student Show at the Giles Gallery. Also, she was juried into Reverberations of the Civil War at the Giles Gallery at EKU with her series of 4x5 large format death and life portraits in 2012.
    Since graduating, Skylar has taken a more hands on approach to exhibits.  Using her passion to further women artists Skylar Co-Founded the Women’s Art Collective of Kentucky or WACKy in December of 2014. The goal of the collective is to create an environment for women to share ideas, inspire one another, all while seeking and planning art opportunities for themselves. The first project they planned was HERsteria: The Celebration on Women Artists and featured 17 artists from the area. In partnership with Village Trough, they played Who Does She Think She Is?, a documentary about the struggles female artists face when dealing with motherhood and careers, to a full house before the opening. Since December, 2014, Skylar has organized four exhibits of WACKy member’s art. EKU’s Vagina Monologues (Richmond, KY), Wildwood Flower Tattoo for Paris Art Walk (Paris, KY), and Alfalfa for Lexington’s Gallery Hop (Lexington, KY) have all hosted the Women’s Art Collective of Kentucky exhibits this year. Also, Many of her photographs have been featured in national and international magazines like Giuseppina Magazine (Denver, CO) and Freque Magazine ( South Australia). On November 21st, 2014, Skylar won Photo of the Day on Vogue Italia’s PhotoVogue website, which is juried by the editors of the magazine.
